About Troop 154

Dear Scouts and Parents,

Welcome to Troop 154! After several years of inactivity, our troop was reactivated with Webelos from Packs 3154 and 3161 joining with Scouts from Troop 180 in February 2002.
Boys joining Troop 154 become members of the greatest boy movement in the world that began in 1910. Our Troop upholds the mission of the Boy Scouts of America which is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
We go hiking and camping. We learn first aid, how to tie knots, and how to cook our own food. We learn to be self-sufficient. We learn about maps and compasses, how to safely use knives and axes, and everything we need to know to be at home in the woods. We teach patriotism, responsibility, and self-discipline. We teach duty to God and country.
Our troop has boy leaders; boys who started working for their Tenderfoot, then became Second and First Class Scouts. Now, they know their scouting skills, and while they work on Star, Life, and Eagle ranks, they want to help others follow in their path.
We are a troop that lives by Christian principles of faith and actions. We also live by the Scout Oath and Law. They’re more than just words. They are our guide. We try to “walk the talk” and we want everything we do to “talk the walk.”
Our troop offers a full Scouting program where a boy can learn scouting skills and have a good time. There are hikes, campouts, and other activities. We plan at least one outdoor activity per month -- usually weekend camping trips. We also attend a week-long summer camp at Camp Manatoc. On these outings, we learn many skills that will last a lifetime. But, best of all, we share fellowship and friendship.
An opportunity for scouts to experience leadership goes along with our program, interests, and planned events. A scout will learn to teach and lead others. We encourage our Scouts to plan and run their own program with guidance from the adult leaders using the patrol method.
The adult leaders act as coaches in Troop 154. They help scouts develop their social and leadership skills and act as a source of advice. Adults are present at every troop function to ensure that activities are properly run and supervised.
Troop 154 has high standards for leaders and scouts. These standards are reflected in this Troop Handbook and I encourage you to read it thoroughly as we strive to help our boys be men of integrity.

Yours in Scouting,
Dale Hedrick
